A quick guide to setting up a new group
Market Research
If you have at least 3 people who are committed to making a new group work you have a potentially viable group. Send out press releases and mailings to generate interest in what the group is planning to do. From the respose you receive you can decide if the group will be successful.
Plan of Action
Every new group needs a name. A mission statement is useful too. This is a chance to explain what the group does and why it is special. Make sure that someone in your group deals with any enquiries quickly. A fixed meeting place and time are all essential to the wellbeing and growth of any group. It doesn't have to be every week, but it does have to be regular and people need to be sure what is going on to build up loyalty to the new group.
Ongoing development
Plan any special events well in advance and make sure they are well publicised. Let as many people as possible know what you are up to and you may be surprised at the response from your local community! Keep a clear idea of where you would like your group to be in a years time and plan well in advance to make sure you reach your goals.

Do you want to explore the full potential of your existing group? Here are some handy hints to keep in mind as you make your plans...
1) Try to raise money in advance and ensure any new projects have the best start as they get off the ground.
2) Good forward planning always provides a firm foundation and gives you the best chance of success.
3) Remember to look at the SWOT...
Strengths
Try to look for the aspects of your new project that are out of the ordinary. It'll be easier to get noticed in the community and in the media if you're doing something that's never been done before.
Weaknesses
Look at your plan critically so you can make any improvements before they become an issue. For example, don't weaken your project or event by creating a clash with other big events either locally and nationally.
Opportunities
Try to Identify all the new opportunities that a new project brings to your group. You could use a fundraising project to get new people involved and interested in your group as you raise money.
Threats
Take a good look around and see if there is another project locally doing a very similar thing. If there is you may want to think again.
